Who are the Johnsonville Lions?

We are a Club of inclusive, friendly, empathetic ordinary people, who collectively generate a sense of pride stepping out to do extraordinary things together.

We welcome enquiries from people about joining our Club. Don’t worry if you think maybe that you’re “not good enough”.

We have roles for everybody. And we support all members with world-class training!

It’s about togetherness and serving the community.

Information for prospective members

Johnsonville Lions are involved in service activities that benefit your local community. We also support national and international activities such as those that support people with diabetes, Ronald McDonald House and Child Cancer.

Our Club, Johnsonville Lions:

• was founded in 1969 and currently has 23 members
• comprises men and women with a common aim to carry out “hands on projects” for the community
• serves the greater Northern Suburbs area of Wellington from Crofton Downs through Ngaio, Khandallah, Johnsonville, Newlands, Grenada Village and Glenside to Churton Park
• assists projects in the wider Wellington area such as the Wellington Free Ambulance, Ronald McDonald House, Life Flight Trust and Diabetes Youth camps
• gives assistance to other local and national charitable projects
• returns all funds raised from community projects to the community

How the Club works:

We meet on the first and third Monday evening of each month in the Johnsonville Club, 1 Norman Lane, Johnsonville with

• a social get together from around 6pm, prior to an optional meal at 6:30,
• “Tail Twisting” in which amusing events of members are noted, then
• a guest speaker once per month talking about interesting local, national, or international topics, with an opportunity for questions.
• a brief summary and discussion of club business and future project opportunities, and
• meeting closure usually prior to 8:30.

Membership

Membership of the club is open to community-minded citizens.  If this sounds like you, then we invite you attend a Club meeting and possibly a club project as a “taster” of what membership offers you.

What’s the Cost?

Members pay fees to Lions International & District, as well as contributing to the club running costs. These fees are currently $80 twice a year.  In addition, we have an optional meal at each meeting (currently around $17.00 per meeting).

The Bigger Picture:

Lions is an international association of approximately 1.4 million service-minded men and women in some 50,000 clubs across some 200 countries.  Within New Zealand Lions activities are coordinated in Districts which take into account major population centres and roading networks.

Achievement Record:

Since its founding, Johnsonville Lions Club has contributed well over $1 million dollars to the wider community and carried out many projects.  Some recent major projects and recipients of major financial donations (greater than $5,000) are shown.  There have also been many smaller projects and donations, too many to list.
